We are increasingly testing with RT-PCR

In many cases, testing plant material for viruses is done at Naktuinbouw with an ELISA test. In addition to ELISA, we also have (real-time) PCR tests available. In the coming period, our range of (real-time) PCR tests will continue to expand
New NAL Conditions on sampling

As of October 1, 2024, new NAL conditions will come into effect. These changes specifically relate to the sampling module. Requirements have been added regarding the sampling of small seed lots, up to 30,000 seeds. Additionally, requirements for fruit sampling, compartment sampling, and pollen sampling have been outlined.
New Seed Extract (SE-PCR) test for onion, chives, garlic and leek

Starting April 1, we can test the presence or absence of Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. allii on seeds of onion, chives, garlic and leeks. For this test we have chosen the fast, reliable and sensitive Seed-Extract PCR (ZE-PCR) method.

New license for Post Entry Quarantine to import fruit varieties to the EU

For certain reasons the importation of plant material of fruit species to the EU is prohibited. EU regulators sets out higher phytosanitary risks measures to avoid introductions of (new) quarantine organisms to the EU. With a special license of the Dutch NPPO (NVWA), in most cases Naktuinbouw is able to import material with a Letter of Authority (LoA) through the Post Entry Quarantine (PEQ) facility.
SME Fund on online application European Plant Variety Protection

The SME Fund 'Ideas Powered for business' is dedicated to bolstering Intellectual Property (IP) protection for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), thereby strengthening their market competitiveness. It is an initiative of the European Commission implemented by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). In 2024 there is €20 million available. Act quickly because of the first-come, first-served nature of the voucher allocation.
New real-time RT-PCR test for plant material Cannabaceae

As of January 1, we introduce a new real-time RT-PCR to test for the presence or absence of Hop latent viroid (HLVd) in hemp (Cannabaceae) plant material. This makes it possible to test all the pathogens mentioned below on this crop with real-time RT-PCR.
New real-time PCR tests for Ralstonia and Xanthomonas in Pelargonium

As of January 1, we are introducing a new real-time PCR for detection of Ralstonia spp. in planting material of horticultural crops and for Xanthomonas wilt in Pelargonium.
Program NAL Proficiency tests 2024 available

NAL authorizes company laboratories to perform seed quality testing. One of the components of monitoring test quality is the proficiency test. The program for the NAL Proficiency tests in 2024 is now available.
Potyvirus PCR test for Mandevilla, Oxalis and Scaevola

We no longer perform the Potyvirus tests with ELISA for the crops Mandevilla, Oxalis and Scaevola. The ELISA test does not adequately meet our test requirements for these crops as some Potyvirusses with ELISA could be missed. That is why Naktuinbouw Laboratoria has decided to stop offering this for these crops.
Adjustment of tests for tomato and pepper seeds for the Australian market

Naktuinbouw Laboratories recently received a notification from the Australian government that Naktuinbouw's protocols for direct seed testing by real-time RT-PCR for ToBRFV, ToMMV and Pospiviroids have been approved for tomato and pepper.
