Are you new to the world of Plant Breeders' Rights and registration research? Curious about how to submit your Plant Breeders' Rights application online? Or how to choose a good variety name? 

In this training, you will get a general overview of Naktuinbouw as an organisation and the legislation it enforces. The procedures related to plant breeders' rights and regstration research will be explained, as well as how the DUS (Distinctness, Uniformity, and Stability) test is conducted. 

Depending on the sector you work in, you can partly customize your own program. 

In the afernoon, the group will split up, and you can choose either the 'vegetable sector module' or the 'ornamental horticulture sector module'. In combination with the ornamental horticulture sector module, you can also express interest in fruit. In combination with the vegetable module, you can indicate an interest in agriculture.

Target group?

The training is suitable for breeders and companies that are encountering Variety Testing for the first time. The training is intended for people in the horticultural sector who are involved in procedures for Plant Breeders' Rights and registration research.

Program 

Subjects in this training

  • Naktuinbouw and the Variety Testing Department
  • Board for Plant Varieties/ CPVO
  • Procedures for Plant Breeders' Rights applications: online applications, filling out forms, deadlines, materials to be submitted
  • Plant Breeders' Rights processes: decisions, determinations, confirmations, deadlines 
  • DUS testing, novelty, and variety name testing 
  • Re-registration: when it is free and when it is not 
  • Explenation of Variety Finder, Plant Scope

In the afernoon, the group will split up, and you can choose either the 'vegetable sector module' or the 'ornamental horticulture sector module'.

    • Vegetable sector module: registration, research, maintenance control, authorization procedures, amateur varieties, synonyms, company trials, inspections, internal list; name testing. 
    • Ornamental horticulture sector module: variety registration, information sources, brand and trade designations. 

A specialist in DUS testing will show you where to find relevant information and will cover the various steps in filling out (online) registration forms. Part of the training includes a visit to the trail fields and Variety Center. This will give you an impression of how DUS testing is conducted and will address the recognition of characteristics. 

UPOV

This course is a UPOV-endorsed training. After finishing this course, you will be granted 3 credits for the UPOV PVP Certificate program.
