On April 1, we are introducing new real-time RT-PCR’s to test the presence or absence of Sowbane mosaic virus (SoMV) and Spinach latent virus (SpLV) on spinach seeds. For both tests, the fast, reliable and sensitive Seed-Extract PCR method has been selected.

To support the sector, Naktuinbouw Laboratories continues to develop new tests that can support diagnosis on plants with symptoms or, on the other hand, check and guarantee absence from certain viruses.
The (real-time) PCR is a technique for rapid amplification of DNA
This is done with the help of pathogen-specific building blocks. The increase in DNA can be monitored digitally at any time. This makes it possible to faster and with more certainty confirm whether the seed samples actually contain the pathogen.
Viruses
Sowbane mosaic virus (SoMV) is a Sobemo virus that causes problems in spinach worldwide and considered a quarantine pest in Mexico and China. Transmissibility of this virus via seeds has been confirmed.
- SoMV on seed of spinach
- Sample size: 3,000 untreated seeds
- Test fee: € 184,00
- Duration basic test: 4 days
Spinach latent virus (SpLV) is an Ilar virus that causes minor problems in spinach worldwide, but regulated as A1 pest for Brazil. Transmissibility of this virus via seeds has been confirmed.
- SpLV on seed of spinach
- Sample size: 3,000 untreated seeds
- Test fee: € 184,00
- Duration basic test: 4 days
