Naktuinbouw is excited to offer you this comprehensive course that provides 25 years of training experience on the plant breeders' rights (PBR) system. The program is designed to give you an in-depth understanding of the key aspects of the UPOV Plant Variety Protection (PVP) system.

Fully online program (start whenever you want)
The online program is a self-paced training program featuring 8 e-learning modules. It offers 80 hours of learning material. The modules will be accessible to you for a duration of six months.

Blended training program (from March - June 2025)
The blended 10 week training program includes 8 e-learning modules, 6 online live sessions followed by a five-day on-site training in the Netherlands.

 The program covers various critical topics such as the significance and advantages of a (harmonized) PBR system, the legal framework established by the UPOV Convention, administrative procedures, the background and practical aspects of DUS-testing, the use of molecular techniques in PVP and the enforcement of rights. To enhance your learning experience, the e-learning modules include videos featuring individuals from various countries who share their personal reflections and insights on their experiences with PVP systems.

The fully online format enables participants to learn independently, allowing them to progress through the material at their own speed and according to their own schedule.

The blended training program adds six trainer-led live sessions (online) to the online program mentioned above. In these sessions we elaborate on the e-learning modules and start preparations for the on-site training in the Netherlands. The on-site program offers a diverse and inspirational week filled with excursions, case studies, and role-playing activities. You'll have the chance to forge connections with colleagues and companies from around the world. We'll also treat you to a delightful boat ride, giving you the chance to experience the enchanting lowlands from the water.

Target audience
This course is designed for legal, administrative, policy, or executive professionals who work in the plant variety protection system, regardless if they work in the public or private sector. All content is presented in English.

UPOV
This course is a UPOV-endorsed training. After finishing this course, you will be granted 20 credits for the UPOV PVP Certificate program.

All registrants will have the exclusive opportunity to enroll in the UPOV Distance Learning Course (DL-205) titled 'Introduction to the UPOV System of Plant Variety Protection under the UPOV Convention' at no cost.
