Naktuinbouw staat op IPM Essen

IPM will be taking place from 24 to 27 January 2023 in Essen, Germany

The trade fair is a great opportunity for Naktuinbouw, the CPVO and other national examination offices to meet with clients and stakeholders after two years of interruption due to the COVID pandemic. Visitors having questions or looking for information about applying for Plant Breeders’ Rights (PBR) in the European Union may visit our joint booth to meet and discuss with relevant experts. Opening hours are from 9:00 hrs to 18:00 hrs on January 24 to 26 and from 9:00 hrs to 17:00 hrs on January 27.

With one single application breeders from all over the world can receive a PBR valid in the whole territory of the European Union.

The European Union is an important market for ornamental plants

The EU has one of the world's highest densities of flower production. Naktuinbouw examines almost 1000 applications for European Plant Breeders' Rights every year (vegetable, agricultural, ornamental and arboricultural crops). To date, ornamental species account for the largest number of EU applications (+/-53%), ahead of agricultural species (+/-26%) and fruit and vegetable species (+/-21%).

Unique in its kind, the Plant Variety Rights System (CPVR) managed by the CPVO has a positive economic and environmental impact on the EU, and creates an additional GDP value of 13 billion EUR. A recent study co-authored with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) has found that the CPVR contributes to higher agricultural production, and it accounts for 15% of the current output of ornamental species in the EU.
