A Guide to Plant Breeders' Rights and Registration Procedures

In this training, you will get a general overview of Naktuinbouw as an organisation and the legislation it enforces. The procedures related to plant breeders' rights and registration research will be explained, as well as how the DUS (Distinctness, Uniformity, and Stability) test is conducted.

Target group

The training is suitable for breeders and companies that are encountering Variety Testing for the first time. The training is intended for people in the horticultural sector who are involved in procedures for Plant Breeders' Rights and registration research.

Molecular markers in DUS, essentially derived varieties (EDV)
Registration of varieties for trade, Dutch Variety Register (NRR), EU list
Prolonged registration, two DUS trials in one year, authorisation procedures, amateur varieties, third‑country synonyms, company trials, inspections, internal Naktuinbouw list for export to non‑EU European countries
Variety denominations, brand and trade names, information sources

Part of the training includes a visit to the Variety Center. This will give you an impression of how DUS testing is conducted and will address the characteristics.

UPOV

This course is a UPOV-endorsed training. After finishing this course, you will be granted 3 credits for the UPOV PVP Certificate program.
