New Seed Extract (SE-PCR) tests for beet

Publicatiedatum: 13 december 2023

As of January 1, we will add beet seeds to our Seed-Extract PCR method for testing Tomato ringspot virus (ToRSV) and Tobacco ringspot virus (TRSV).

For these tests, the fast, reliable and sensitive Seed-Extract PCR method has been selected.

A technique for rapid amplification of RNA

For this, pathogen-specific building blocks are used. The increase in RNA can be digitally monitored through time. The assays are faster and give more certainty on presence (or absence) of the viruses.

Viruses

Tobacco ringspot virus (TRSV) and Tomato ringspot virus (ToRSV) are transmitted by the nematode Xiphinema americanum. The nematode as well as the viruses are on the EU quarantine list. The nematode does not occur in Europe, but the viruses can travel with plant material and are occasionally detected. TRSV and ToRSV have a wide host-plant range in vegetable, ornamental and nursery stock.

The protocols for these quarantine organisms are approved by the Dutch NPPO.

  •  ToRSV or TRSV on seed of tomato, pepper, eggplant, lettuce, melon or Beet
    • Sample: 3,000 seeds
    • Test rate: € 207
    • Duration test: 4 days

For basic fees see price list.

Naktuinbouw Laboratories support the sector

To support the sector, Naktuinbouw Laboratories continues to develop new tests that can support diagnosis on plants with symptoms or, on the other hand, check and guarantee freedom from certain viruses.
