Naktuinbouw calculates the costs involved based on the cost maker/cost unit principle. In recent years, this system has been further refined in consultation with the various sectors.

Via the (obligatory) inspection fees, Naktuinbouw draws up an annual budget designed to cover the costs of performing the inspections. As it is a foundation, Naktuinbouw is a non-profit organisation. The (sector) boards try to establish fees of an acceptable level. The guiding principle to charge fees (tariff) for all activities so that the costs they involve are fully covered. Naktuinbouw cannot and is not permitted to use the revenue from inspection fees for any internal purposes - not for inspections in another sector, but not for any other activities either. Naktuinbouw does not receive any financial support from the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality for its activities.
