TQ's are based on CPVO or UPOV guidelines for the crop. The numbering of the sections corresponds with these guidelines.

In the CPVO or UPOV guideline you find the explanation on the characteristics and example varieties for possible notes. In the form is a link to a web page, where you can easily find the protocol.
Some characteristics are marked with a G. These are main characteristics, used by Naktuinbouw to group varieties.
Often only odd notes are presented (as 1 for very weak, 3 for weak etc.). However, you may also use even notes (for example 2 if you think the expresssion is very weak to weak).
6. Similar varieties
In this section you state to which variety your candidate resembles a lot. Preferably you choose a variety in the same group, so a variety that is similar in its characteristics marked with G. You may state more than one variety.
Then you state (in the 2nd column) the characteristics in which the similar variety differs from your candidate variety. In column 3 and 4 you give a description of the similar variety (or varieties), resepectively the candidate variety. We prefer that you use characteristics from the CPVO or UPOV guideline. In this way we can select a limited set of varieties to be included in the field trial.
7.1 Resistances to pests and diseases
In this section you indicate which resistances or susceptibilities apply. Diseases are divided in 4 groups:
Diseases marked with C (compulsory) are always tested by Naktuinbouw. This applies for applications for listing and for Plant Breeders' Rights. For diseases marked with G (grouping) you have to state whether your candidate is susceptible or resistant. You declare by signing the form that this claim is correct. If, later on, you would like to change this declaration, you can inform us. For C and G diseases such change could influence the DUS test and may lead to an extra year of testing. For diseases not marked with C or G, you may also state 0 (for not tested) if you don't know whether your candidate is susceptible or resistant. If you would like to claim other resistances for your candidate, you can state them in section 7.3: Other Information. For resistances stated here we have to check whether they fulfill the demands of CPVO/UPOV for a new characteristic (see UPOV website for document TG/1/3, section 4.2) and whether your test protocol corresponds with it.
7.2 Special conditions for the examination of the variety
In this section you may state whatever you think is important for the proper execution of the DUS test. If it concerns very specific requirements, we'll have to check if these can be fulfilled by Naktuinbouw. If necessary we'll contact you, e.g. regarding the costs.
We hope to facilitate you with completing the TQ by means of this explanation. If you have any questions left, or if you have any remark on this explanation, please contact us at .
