To assist Myanmar authorities to draft their own rice national protocol the Plant Variety Testing Department of Naktuinbouw together with the New Plant Variety Protection Section of the Department of Agricultural Research of Myanmar have organized an in-country training.
The Netherlands does not have experience in DUS in rice. However it is the strength of the UPOV system that a country can rely on other regional UPOV countries with experience.
Rice is a very important crop for Japan and Vietnam. Mr. Mizuno Tadao (PVP specialist of MAFF) and Mrs. NGUYEN THI MAI HA (rice specialist in the National Center For Plant Testing of Vietnam) are the guest speakers of this training and will assist Myanmar with this purpose through their presentations.
This training was opened by Mr. Naming Kyi Win (DG-DAR) and Mrs. Laura Piñán González (PVP specialist of Naktuinbouw) and is taking place in Yezin from 4-9 November. This activity is funded by the Dutch Ministery of Agriculture, Nature and Food quality.
